Kapelebyong District leaders on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 commissioned Alito Seed Secondary School, a UGX2.5 billion education project constructed under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UGIFT) Programme.
The newly commissioned school features an administration block, two classroom blocks with two classrooms each, a science laboratory, library, teachers' latrine, separate boys' and girls' latrines, three staff houses of two units each, three two-stance staff latrines and three kitchens.
It also includes; two classroom blocks with two classrooms each, a multipurpose hall, an ICT block with sanitary facilities, a football field, and a perimeter fence.
The facility is expected to improve access to affordable, quality secondary education for learners in Alito Sub-county and the surrounding communities.
While commissioning the school, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Esele Simon Julius, applauded the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government for investing in education infrastructure.
He said the government remains committed to its policy of ensuring that every sub-county has a secondary school.
"The President loves the people of Kapelebyong. Let us reciprocate that love," Mr. Esele said.
Construction of the school began in 2023 on a 12-acre piece of land donated by members of the community in Aberan Village, Alito Sub-county.
The District Education Officer, Mr. Okengo Denis, described the school as a major milestone that will transform education in the area.
He revealed that the school currently has an enrolment of 102 students and urged parents to enrol more learners instead of taking them to distant schools.
"The district worked hard to secure an EMIS number for the school. Next year, the government will provide staffing for the school," Mr. Okengo said.
The District Engineer, Mr. Charles Oule, thanked the District Council for prioritizing the construction of Alito Seed Secondary School and commended the community for supporting the contractor throughout the project.
He pledged to improve the key road networks connecting communities to the school and encouraged the contractor to maintain the high standards demonstrated during construction.
District leaders also commended the NRM Government for establishing the modern school and urged residents to embrace and protect the development.
The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Shaineh Nelson, applauded the community for donating land for the project.
He said the district would follow the appropriate procedures to support the education of children from the donor families and recommend government recognition through medals or prioritisation under government programme.
"We shall continue discussions to ensure the school is provided with adequate security, but the community must take the lead in protecting this facility," Mr. Shaineh said.
He reaffirmed the district's commitment to following up on the staffing of the school.
The District Chairperson, Ms. Ajego Jackline, urged the community to continue respecting and appreciating the families that donated land for the school.
She also praised the contractor for delivering quality work.
"May your services continue to reflect excellence. May God continue to bless you," Ms. Ajego said.
