Kapelebyong District has officially launched the construction of two major roads, marking the start of its planned infrastructure upgrades for the 2025/2026 financial year. The initiative, valued at Shs443 million, aims to repair and improve the district’s road network, which has suffered extensive damage due to persistent heavy rains.
The two roads under construction are the Obalanga–Oditel road (16km), allocated Shs208 million, and the Obalanga–Amare–Ocongoda road (15km), allocated Shs235 million.
During a commissioning ceremony held at Obalanga Town Council on November 7, 2025, Mr. Ojomi Augustine, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC), assured residents that his office would closely supervise the works to guarantee value for public funds. Mr. Ojomi also highlighted the project as a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure across the region.
“Let us continue to support leaders who prioritize the development of Kapelebyong, including President Museveni. Avoid those who seek to misuse district resources,” Mr. Ojomi urged.
Representing the District Chairperson, Mr. Akorikin Francis, the Chairperson for Works and Technical Services, Mr. Ojok Benedict, called on community members to cooperate with technical teams and refrain from interfering with construction activities. “Please allow the proper reinforcement structures to be installed for the roads’ longevity, and avoid stealing murrum, as it undermines the quality of our roads,” he cautioned.
Mr. Alobai Peter, speaking on behalf of the Chief Administrative Officer, Ms. Oroma Rhoda, encouraged residents to take ownership of the new infrastructure by reporting anyone who vandalizes or damages the roads. He reiterated the government’s dedication to uplifting the well-being of local communities.
“Kapelebyong District generates about Shs400 million in local revenue annually. The government’s substantial investment in these roads demonstrates a strong commitment to our district’s development,” Mr. Alobai noted.
Acting District Engineer, Mr. Oule Charles, explained that the roads were selected by the district council for funding under a Shs1 billion mechanized maintenance grant. However, he acknowledged that construction costs remain high due to limited district-owned road equipment, necessitating the hiring of additional machinery.
Additional road projects slated for this financial year under the same grant include Akulonyo–Acinga (11km) at Shs132 million, Acowa–Angerepo (16km) at Shs192 million, and a new road between Alito Primary School and Alito Seed Secondary School (4km) at Shs84 million.
