Kapelebyong takes 20 youth for third intake of Presidential skilling program

Kapelebyong district has taken twenty youth to Soroti Regional Industrial Hub for the third intake of the President’s skilling program.

The selected beneficiaries comprising 10 girls and 10 boys were flagged off on August 24,2024. They include; Teddy Acen and Julian Akello from Kapelebyong Sub County, Teresa Aanyu and Joseph Ocilaje from Acinga sub county, Dominic Esepu and Ivan Otim from Obalanga sub county, Wilson Erisu and Patricia Ajimo from Okungur sub county.

Others include; Esther Aeso and Esther Atiang from Kapelebyong Town Council, Edison Benjamin Ocole, Jane Martha Acam, Silas Malinga and Denis Acila from Acowa Sub County, Florence Alubo and Salim Saleh Ocen from Akore Town Council, Sarah Aiso from Alito sub county, Emmanuel Ejuu Opoi and Naume Alupo from Obalanga Town Council.

Tom Otukol Olinga, the Resident District Commissioner, urged the selected youth to remain disciplined as they undertake the training.

These carefully selected youth are expected to undertake five months of practical learning in the areas of choice from welding, shoe making, tailoring, hairdressing, block making, stone cutting, baking, plumbing electronics, and farm management. etc.

The trainees are awarded with a Uganda Vocational Qualifications Level One Certificate by the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) which is equivalent to the Uganda certificate of education level and internationally.

Recently, the State House Comptroller, Ms. Jane Barekye expressed that President Museveni intended to create jobs among the youth, reduce criminality and improve household incomes.

So far, 20 Regional Industrial Hubs are operational in Kayunga, Mubende, Masaka, Ankole, Kabale, Kasese, Ntoroko, Kyenjojo, Masindi, Zombo, Adjumani, Gulu, Soroti, Lira, Napak, Kwen, Mbale, Kibuku, Jinja and Tooro.

The learning is free of charge, students don’t pay fees, four meals are provided within a day because the Government of Uganda has catered for the welfare. The duration of the courses is five months.
