Construction of Acowa-Acinga multibillion road commences

The authorities of Kapelebyong have commissioned the rehabilitation of Acowa-Acinga road – a significant project which is earmarked to seize off billions of government funds.
The construction of 16.4kms inclusive of swamp works was handed over to Gat Consults Ltd on 23rd January, 2025 in Adepar Primary School amidst a mammoth of jubilant locals.
The project funded by the International Funds for Agriculture Development (IFAD) under the National Oil Seed Program is allocated Ugx 2,91,000,000 with a timeline of eight months set for it to be completed.
While handing over the contract, Mr. Ojirot Emmy, the deputy Resident District Commissioner, warned the contractor against producing shoddy work.
He applauded the government under the stewardship of President Yoweri Museveni for the servant and transformational leadership exhibited, calling on people to take advantage of it to harness household livelihood.
Mr. Ojirot assured the public that the government is focussed on making it possible that every part of the country is accessible through provision of quality roads.
“This is a great intervention to connect Acinga Sub County to the world. This road will help facilitate trade and connect people to access government facilities among others,” Mr. Ojirot said.
Ms. Oroma Rhoda, the Chief Administrative Officer of Kapelebyong District, emphasised the need for the contractor to produce works which resonate with value for money.
She urged the stakeholders to ensure close monitoring and supervision of the road works such that quality can be achieved in a set contract time frame.
Genesis
The people of Acinga sub county have faced significant challenges of accessing government facilities due to the bad road network. This is severe during the rainy season as part of the sub county is cut off with people forced sometimes to use boats to access the district headquarters.
The sub county is known for its rice growing and cattle keeping which significantly affects the livelihood of households.
The construction of this road is a perfect reflection of the government's efforts to serve its people without discrimination.
